Shonda Stanton was named head coach of Indiana Softball in 2017. During her time at IU, Stanton’s squad has claimed the accolades of best start in program history, along with earning a team spot in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaching Association (NFCA) Coaches Poll for the first time since 1996.
Before coming to IU, Stanton spent 18 seasons at Marshall University, where she became the winningest coach in program history with 560 victories. While at Marshall, Stanton’s team claimed the program-record season with 42-12. At Marshall, Stanton coached 76 all-conference selections, nine conference Player, Pitcher or Freshman of the Year accolades, 34 NFCA All-Region picks and a four-time All-American in Rachel Folden, along with 9 athletes joining the National Pro Fastpitch League. Stanton’s teams reached national rankings and posted an average GPA of 3.0 in every semester of Stanton’s career and have had 103 named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete.
Stanton has received the honor of being picked Conference USA Coach of the Year and her staff was named NFCA’s Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Prior to coming to Marshall, Stanton coached at IUPUI for the first season as a Division 1 program. Before coming to Indianapolis, Stanton spent two seasons as the head coach of the National Pro Fastpitch team, the Akron Racers.
A UNC Greensboro graduate, Stanton was a four-year starter and led the team to back-to-back Big South Conference championships. Stanton scored 66 runs during her senior campaign, ranking her eighth in the nation.
