Ray Looze was named the head coach of the Indiana Swimming program in 2002. Under Looze, Indiana has claimed multiple Big Ten titles and has had multiple runs at the NCAA Championships.
In 2018, Looze was named the College Swimming Coaches Association Coach of the Year after leading the Indiana men’s swimming team to a third-place finish at the NCAA Men’s Championships, the best finish for the Hoosiers in 43 years. Looze has also been named Big Ten Coach of the Year nine times for helping IU swimmers win three NCAA titles, the most for the Indiana program in 45 years.
Looze graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business finance. He later went on to receive his master’s degree from the School of Education at University of Texas at Austin.
As a student-athlete, Looze was a four time All-American selection in swimming. He finished second in the 400 individual medley at the 1990 NCAA Championships, earning a spot on the 1990 U.S. Goodwill Games team. He finished the 1990 campaign ranked among the world’s best in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medleys.
On top of being a standout in the pool, Looze became the first non-football player in USC history to earn GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American honors and was recognized as the school’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1989. On top of the honors, Looze was also a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner and was recognized as a finalist for the 1989 Rhodes Scholarship and the 1990 NCAA Walter Byers Award.
Looze is married to his wife, Kandis. The couple have two children, Bryce Ryan and Mackenzie Looze.

Drew Johansen was named the third diving coach in Indiana University history in 2013. During his time at Indiana, Johansen has led Indiana Diving to several accolades at the Big Ten, NCAA, and Olympic levels.
Part of placing 3rd at the 2018 NCAA Championships, Johansen was named the National Diving Coach of the Year and claimed Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year for the second time. The Hoosier diving team had an exceptional showing at the event, scoring a NCAA-best 98 points. Johansen also helped guide the program to their second-straight Big Ten team championship in 2018, the first back-to-back win since 1983-85 and the 26th title in program history.
In 2012 and 2016, Johansen was named head coach of Team USA for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, where multiple Hoosiers were also members, and the 2012 London Summer Olympics, where USA divers took home four medals. In 2015, Johansen was named head coach of the 2015 U.S. World Championship team. Johansen also spent seven years as a U.S. National Team coach, including serving as the head coach of the 2011 World Championship team. Johansen coached the U.S. Diving World Championship team in 2005 and the U.S. Diving Junior World Team in 2002.
Johansen founded the U.S. Elite Diving Academy in Columbus, Ohio in 2001. Under Johansen’s direction, the Academy won the U.S. Diving Junior Team title in 2005 and the Junior and Senior team title in 2006. Additionally, Johansen has been the head coach and owner of the American School for Diving, a USA Diving Center of Excellence, since 2007.
Before coming to Indiana, Johansen spent six seasons as the head diving coach at Duke University, where he was part of six ACC titles, along with coaching athletes earning 15 individual ACC titles. In addition to his time at Duke, Johansen has served as head coach at both Illinois State University (1999-2001) and Florida Atlantic University (1991-95). Johansen earned conference coach of the year four times at FAU. He served as a volunteer assistant coach at Ohio State University from 2004-07.
Johansen is married to his wife, Jenny, and the couple have one daughter, Lina Mei.
